# See your business clearly, from the chat apps you already use

> Your business systems and chat groups already hold the answers. AI can read them and reply in plain language, in the chat apps your team already uses.

Every morning, in businesses everywhere, the same thing happens. Someone opens a spreadsheet, pulls numbers from a system or two, and posts a summary into a WhatsApp group.

Managers scroll, react with a 👍, and move on. For many companies, this is their business intelligence. And it works, until it doesn’t.

## The hidden cost of reporting by hand

Chat apps have quietly become where teams see what’s happening in the business. But behind every update is a person exporting, copying, checking and re-typing. At month-end, someone else rebuilds all those messages into a “proper” report.

People spend [nearly 20% of their working week](https://www.mckinsey.com/industries/technology-media-and-telecommunications/our-insights/the-social-economy) just looking for information or tracking down colleagues who have it. Reports arrive late. And because so much is copied by hand, mistakes slip through. In [one long-running set of audits](https://www.journalofaccountancy.com/issues/2015/nov/how-to-debug-excel-spreadsheets/), 88% of spreadsheets had errors.

Worst of all, the information is buried in chat scroll. You can see it, but you can’t ask it anything.

## How businesses have tried to see more clearly

**First, people.** Companies hired analysts, managers or consultants to pull data into Google Sheets and slides. It works, but it’s expensive and slow, and the numbers are old by the time they’re presented.

**Then, ERP systems.** Business systems like SAP, Odoo or Xero (often called ERPs) were built to solve this, with everything stored accurately in one place. But storing data isn’t the same as understanding it. Someone still has to pull it out and make sense of it. So the ERP holds the answers while the team keeps typing reports into WhatsApp.

**Then, dashboards.** Dashboard tools promised live numbers for everyone. In reality, [only about 1 in 4 employees uses them](https://barc.com/news/new-study-identifies-drivers-of-bi-and-analytics-adoption-in-companies-today/), and that number has barely moved in years. People don’t go to the data. They stay where they already work.

**Now, AI.** Tools like ChatGPT, Claude and Grok can read data, crunch numbers and write reports. The catch is that someone has to connect them to your systems, secure them and keep them running. Most business owners don’t have the time or a tech team to spare.

![Four ways to see your business, rising like steps: people (slow and costly), ERP (stores data, doesn’t crunch it), dashboards (only 1 in 4 use them), and an AI layer (ask and get answers, wherever you chat)](https://www.hover.team/blog/images/see-clearly-four-ways.png)

## The missing piece: an AI layer on top of your business

The gap isn’t your data. Your ERP likely already has it, accurate and complete. It isn’t your chat apps either. The gap is the layer in between: the part that does the crunching nobody has time for.

Think of it as a translator between your systems and AI. Hover gathers your ERP, WhatsApp and other data into one place AI can read. It works with ChatGPT, Claude and whatever comes next, so you’re never locked in.

> Your ERP already has the answers. What’s missing is someone with time to ask the questions. That’s what AI is for.

![Three layers: your data (ERP, WhatsApp messages and files, spreadsheets, other systems) at the bottom, Hover as the AI layer in the middle, and the chat apps where you ask (WhatsApp, iMessage, Slack, Discord, ChatGPT, Claude) on top](https://www.hover.team/blog/images/see-clearly-ai-layer.png)

## What changes when you can just ask

**Ask in plain language, wherever you already chat.** You can ask “How did this week compare to last week?” in WhatsApp, iMessage, Slack, Discord, or straight in ChatGPT or Claude. The chat app is just the window. No new dashboard to learn, and no need to keep up with the latest tech.

**The same reports, or better ones.** The AI uses the report templates your company already has, with the same layout and the numbers leadership expects. The difference is that they’re checked against the source data, ready the same day and consistent every time.

**Catch what’s slipping.** Totals that don’t add up. Two systems that should agree but don’t. A routine update that hasn’t come in. You stop finding problems at month-end and start seeing them the day they happen.

**An AI that learns your normal.** It doesn’t follow rigid rules. It learns what normal looks like for your business, so it flags what matters and ignores what doesn’t.

## Seeing is step one. Acting is the breakthrough.

Given enough analysts, any business could eventually see what was happening. AI makes it faster, cheaper and easier.

But what AI truly unlocks is action. A dashboard can tell you something has stalled. AI can nudge the right person, follow up and escalate if nothing moves. [Gartner predicts](https://www.gartner.com/en/newsroom/press-releases/2024-10-21-gartner-identifies-the-top-10-strategic-technology-trends-for-2025) that by 2028, AI agents will make at least 15% of day-to-day work decisions on their own.

But you can’t act on what you can’t see. That’s why seeing comes first.

## What’s next

In Part 2, we’ll look at what happens after something slips: how AI turns what you see into action, automatically, with your team still in control.
